Corequisites: BIOL 1400 , DNHY 1314 , DNHY 1315 , DNHY 1316 . DNHY 1317 and DNHY 1318
This course includes a study of the physical and chemical properties and the manipulation of and uses for most commonly used dental materials. The laboratory component will present the practical application for each material (demonstration and lab practice).

Objectives:
- Identify common dental materials.
- Demonstrate the application of dental sutures.
- Demonstrate the removal of dental sutures.
- Demonstrate the placement of the rubber dam.
- Demonstrate the removal of the rubber dam.
- Demonstrate common isolation techniques.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to construct oral appliances.
Objectives:
- Demonstrate obtaining an alginate impression.
- Demonstrate creating a study model.
- Demonstrate trimming technique of study models.
- Demonstrate fabrication of a bleaching tray.
- Demonstrate fabrication of an athletic guard.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to accurately place selected dental materials on a lab simulator.

- Demonstrate placement of sealants.
- Demonstrate placement of dental amalgam.
- Demonstrate placement of composite resin.
- Demonstrate placement retraction cord.
- Demonstrate placement of orthodontic bands.
- Demonstrate placement of dental cement.
- Demonstrate placement of preventive and desensitizing agents.
- Demonstrate the application of a periodontal dressing.
- Demonstrate the removal of a periodontal dressing.
- Demonstrate the use of finishing and polishing materials in dentistry.
