Obejctives:

1. Interpret the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
2. Interpret various legal principles that regulate the dental profession and serve as guides in the delivery of appropriate patient care. 
3. Interpret concepts of civil and criminal law as they relate to dental hygiene practice.  

Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to elaborate on the various roles of a dental hygienist.

Obejctives:

1. Discuss the role of a dental hygienist as a member of the dental team within the context of the team concept as it pertains to success of a particular practice. 
2. Discuss various types of employment opportunities/arrangements available to dental hygienists. 
3. Discuss various methods of compensation and benefits available to dental hygienists. 
4. Discuss skills and resources that will promote obtainment and retention of employment. 
5. Develop short- and long-term professional development plans that incorporate the values of lifelong learning and career promotion. 

Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to discuss dental insurance protocols.

Obejctives:

1. Discuss the basic types of dental insurance.
2. Originate a patient treatment predetermination dental insurance form.
3. Discuss the levels of dental treatment coding.
4.  Discuss how to use the Current Dental Terminology (CDT) manual. 

Outcome 4: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain the steps to become a registered dental hygienist.

Obejctives:

1. Compare current state practice acts in preparation for licensure or certification and employment. 
2. Determine the necessary forms, fees, and processes required for licensure application.
3. Determine the necessary licensure exams and fees.

Outcome 5: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate preparedness to join the workforce.

2. Construct a resume.
3. Build a professional ePortfolio.
4. Participate in a mock interview.
