LNUR 1355 - Introduction to Adult Medical-Surgical Nursing B Credit Hours: 1.50 Prerequisites: LNUR 1345 with grade C or better
Corequisites: LNUR 1365
This theory course focuses on collaborative planning of safe, culturally diverse nursing care to adult patients experiencing medical/surgical health issues. The focus of the LPN is their role of delivery of care under the direction of the R.N., using evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives to develop vital skills in caring for culturally diverse patients and their families.

Course Outcome:
- Upon completion of this course the student will be able to describe evidence‐based practice in the care of adult patients with medical/surgical conditions.
Course Objectives: The student will:
- Explain the role of evidence-based practice in deciding best clinical practice in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Use evidence to expand knowledge and skills in caring for adult patients experiencing medical/surgical conditions.
- Follow appropriate nursing diagnosis for collaborative problems.
- Under the direction of the interdisciplinary team, implement evidence‐based nursing interventions for patients with medical/surgical conditions.

C. The student will identify quality improvement strategies as an integral component of nursing practice.
Course Outcome:
- Upon completion of this course the student will be able to identify National Patient Safety Goals for patients experiencing medical/surgical conditions.
Course Objectives: The student will:
- Identify and explain quality indicators for patients with a variety of medical/surgical conditions.
- Know national patient safety goals for medical/surgical conditions.
- In collaboration with interdisciplinary team, implement the national patient safety goals to prevent injury in a patient’s medical/surgical condition.
