LNUR 1245 - Fundamentals of Nursing 2A Credit Hours: 1.50 Prerequisites: Admission into the Licensed Practical Nursing Program; LNUR 1145 , LNUR 1155 , LNUR 1165 , LNUR 1175 and PSYC 1010 all with grade C or better, or grade Pass (if the course is a Pass/Fail course)
Corequisites: NURS 1265
This course provides an introduction to the theory and practice of nursing for the LPN student. The major focus is on the nursing process and vital thinking skills while using evidence-based principles of nursing in providing basic care for chronically ill and elderly clients within the practical nurse scope of practice.

- Identify nursing care for culturally diverse individuals with physiological nursing conditions.
- Identify evidence-based nursing interventions for culturally diverse individuals.

C. The student will identify quality improvement strategies as an integral component of nursing practice.
Course Outcome:
- Upon completion of this course the student will be able to identify national patient safety goals for patients with physiological nursing conditions.
Course Objectives: The student will:
- Recognize national patient safety objectives.
- Recognize quality indicators.
- Recognize legal and ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements that impact nursing documentation.

D. The student will demonstrate critical-thinking problem-solving by applying clinical knowledge to provide safe, culturally appropriate client and family-centered care.
Course Outcome:
3. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to use problem-solving techniques for the nursing process.
Course Objectives: The student will:
- Identify the nursing process in problem solving the care of adults with a variety of health issues.
- Demonstrate competency in accordance with the LPN Scope of Practice, assessment and data collection.
- Perform patient-centered, nursing interventions in a safe, effective, and timely manner
- Correctly compute drug calculations.
