This course covers advertising for print, web and other communication forms. It includes the application of a variety of media to assigned problems.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to create drawings and designs with accuracy.

Objectives:

  1. Create images with appropriate size relationships, angles, and negative space.
  2. Use methods to indicate type and graphics for advertising layouts.
  3. Use the elements and principles of design.

Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to discuss the role, ethics, and responsibility of advertising.

Objectives:

  1. Examine different aspects of advertising.
  2. Explore the roles within an advertising agency.
  3. Understand ethics in regards to advertising.

Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to produce advertising layouts for various mediums.

Objectives:

  1. Create brochures.
  2. Create booklets.
  3. Create flyers.
  4. Create direct mail advertisements.
  5. Create web advertisements.
  6. Create billboards.

Outcome 4: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to utilize the design process.

Objectives:

  1. Research topics.
  2. Create preliminary sketches.

  4. Modify design accordingly.
  5. Present work and get feedback.

  1. Elements and Principles of Design Refresh
    1. Review design fundamentals.
    2. Assignment: Design exercise to refresh visual principles.
  2. Personal Logo and Brand Mark
    1. Explore logo design principles and the Gestalt Laws.
    2. Assignments: Logo brainstorming, thumbnails, feedback, and peer review.
  3. Ethics and Responsibility in Advertising
    1. Study ethical advertising practices and billboard design.
    2. Assignment: Research and plan billboard and cereal box designs.
  4. Print Campaign Design
    1. Understand the importance of typography and print media.
    2. Assignments: Research, ideation, and creating layouts for a print ad campaign.
  5. Type and Graphics for Advertising Layouts
    1. Develop layouts and refine design elements for print campaigns.
    2. Assignment: Create print ad layouts and peer review.
  6.  Sublimation and Design in Advertising
    1. Learn about sublimation printing and its role in advertising.
    2. Assignments: Sublimation Design Project for a real client
  7. Social Media Advertising
    1. Craft social media advertisements using Adobe tools.
    2. Assignment: Collaborative social media campaign design.
  8. Final Project
    1. Focus on packaging design, POP displays, and branding.
    2. Assignments: Final packaging design, POP display, and presentation.
