MACA 2050 - Design 3

Credit Hours: 4.00


Prerequisites: MACA 1055 , MACA 1155 ; and MACA 1200  or MACA 1320  

(formerly MACA 2020)

Students design three-dimensional design concepts for various forms of communication using a variety of media, computer programs, materials, and techniques in black and white, and color. This course may be taken twice for credit.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to create visual experiences.

    • Key Activities: Exploring the fundamentals of design and visual principles.

 

Logo Design Project

  • Research and Ideation
    • Topics: Different types of logos, creative typography for logo design.
    • Key Activities: Research and develop initial ideas for logo designs, exploring fonts and typography choices.
  • Project Development
    • Topics: Color theory, spot and process color in logo design.
    • Key Activities: Designing the logo and preparing it for presentation.

 

Creative Design in History

  • Unity, Harmony, and Variety
    • Topics: Historical design movements and visual principles in design.
    • Key Activities: Research and apply design history to modern design projects, focusing on unity, harmony, and variety.

Designing for a Product Collection

  • Pattern Design and Collection Building
    • Topics: Repetition, rhythm, balance, and pattern design in product collections.
    • Key Activities: Research, brainstorm, and design seamless patterns for product collections.
  • Cohesive Collection Design
    • Topics: Creating a cohesive product collection based on a central theme.
    • Key Activities: Develop a design collection from a “hero” image, create corresponding products, and complete process documentation.

 

Design and Branding

  • Food Truck Brand Design
    • Topics: Logo design, menu layout, and overall branding principles.
    • Key Activities: Design a food truck logo, develop a double-sided menu, and create a branded food truck wrap.
  • Brand Guidelines
    • Key Activities: Develop brand guidelines to ensure consistent branding across various materials.

 

Final Project

  • Kids Meal Toy and Package Design
    • Topics: Packaging design, toy concept creation, and execution.
    • Key Activities: Research, brainstorm, and design a complete kids meal package with toy concept, culminating in a final project presentation.
