DNHY 1121 - Preclinical Dental Hygiene Clinic Credit Hours: 2.00 Prerequisites: Admission into the Dental Hygiene Program; ENGL 1181 or ENGL 1210 , BIOL 2710 , BIOL 2400 or BIOL 2730 , PSYC 1010 , CHEM 1050 , and SOCY 1010 all with grade of C or better

This course initiates the foundational theoretical knowledge of clinical dental hygiene concepts for performing dental hygiene care. Theoretical concepts introduced include clinical policy/procedure, maintaining a safe and aseptic work environment, equipment maintenance, taking medical/dental histories and vital signs, performing intra and extra-oral exam techniques, patient assessment instruments and techniques, scaling instruments and techniques, stain removal equipment and techniques, fluoride application, patient education, documentation, and evidence-based dental hygiene concepts.
