HLTH-8110 Home Care Assistant

Prerequisites HLTH-8038A  or HLTH-8038
Home care is the fastest growing job opportunity in health care. Learn home care safety, companionship activities, plan and prepare meals, observation and documentation, transportation, assisting clients with activities of daily living and housekeeping chores. Prior to admittance into this class, students are required to successfully complete the Nurse Assistant HLTH-8038A portion of the Nursing Assistant Program.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Competency in any task assigned will be recognized when the student performs it in accordance with the procedures of the training program.
  2. Students are expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of communication skills, reading and recording vital signs, personal care skills, safe transfer techniques, observation and documentation skills, range of motion and proper positioning techniques.

Activities/Resources
  • Perform basic nursing skills in on-site classroom laboratory under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.


Evaluation
Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class form distributed during the last day of the class session.

Successful Completion
Attendance of 6 contact hours is required to successfully complete this course which includes: Enrollment and passing the Nursing Assistant classroom and laboratory portions are required to enroll in the Home Care Assistant Class. This class provides the opportunity to earn a Certificate of Training as a Home Care Assistant with the inclusion of passing skills competencies and quizzes scoring 80% or greater.

  • Occupational Coordinator is available to assist student with job assistance and personal resources if needed.
  • Associate Dean available for other Health Care Programs available.
  • Students will be placed on probation with a written warning due to problems with attendance, behavior, low quiz scores, inappropriate dressing, and phone usage (texting), smoking where prohibited, cheating and sleeping during class times.
