HLTH-8038A Nurse Assistant Prerequisites WKSP-8000 Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to assist patients who need help with activities of daily living. Prepare to work in health care facilities or private homes under the direction of a registered nurse. Web-based learning will enhance classroom lectures. Students can access Canvas at My Macomb. Activities/Resources
- Opportunity to perform basic nursing skills in on-site classroom laboratory and to perform basic nursing skills in a nursing home setting.
- Occupational coordinator is available to assist student with job assistance and personal resources.

Evaluation Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class form distributed at last class session.
Successful Completion The instructor will assess the student’s skills learned using attendance, participation, feedback, testing where appropriate, and projects completed. Student must complete all competency skills and complete written test with at least 80% accuracy to be eligible for clinical rotation. Student is expected to attend at least 80% of classroom and lab combined classes. Students will be placed on probation with a written warning due to problems with attendance, behavior, low quiz scores, inappropriate dressing, and phone usage (texting), smoking where prohibited, and sleeping during class times. Probation status and written warnings can lead to immediate termination from Nursing Assistant Program without a refund. Upon successful completion, this course will appear on the student’s Macomb Community College non-credit transcript.
