HLTH-8021B Phlebotomy Internship Prerequisites None Corequisites HLTH 8001C Previous or Concurrent Participate in an 80/120-hour unpaid internship for three continuous weeks, full-time, day shift only.

Learning Outcomes
- Student will become familiar with assigned hospital’s blood collection standards and procedures.
- Student will know and use order of draw.
- Student will be able to interpret doctors’ prescriptions and identify tubes needed for collection.
- Student will properly identify patient reporting any errors when needed.
- Student will use safety measures to prevent injury and infection control.
- Student will become familiar with unique requirements associated with drawing from special populations including pediatric, geriatric, adolescent, and adult patients.

- Follow policy and procedures specific to the laboratory.

- Hands-on venipuncture or capillary procedures
Evaluation Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class form distributed at the last class session.
Successful Completion The instructor will evaluate the student’s skills learned using 100% attendance, feedback, and testing where appropriate. Upon successful completion, this class will appear on the student’s non-credit transcript.
