CRIM 2430 - Criminal Justice Capstone

Credit Hours: 3.00


Prerequisites: Completion of at least 25 credits in Criminal Justice courses, must include CRIM 1100 , CRIM 1140 , CRIM 1200 , AND CRIM 2300 . Highly recommended that students enroll in this course within the final two semesters of graduation or transfer. Approval from Professor for topic of Research Study or Practical Project. 

This course offers students the opportunity to conduct independent research or practical projects on topics in the field of criminal justice. Under the supervision of a professor, students will explore areas of personal interest within criminal justice, such as criminology, law enforcement, corrections, the court system, or juvenile justice. Students will gain experience in conducting research, applying theoretical frameworks, and developing solutions to contemporary criminal justice issues.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to develop and refine a research question or project focus in the field of criminal justice. 

Objectives:

  1. Evaluate current criminal justice policies and practices.  
  2. Apply critical thinking to contemporary issues in criminal justice, such as crime trends or law enforcement strategies.
  3. Develop a clear research question or project objective within the criminal justice field.

Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate professional skills such as time management, self-directed learning, and communication through online engagement and reporting.

Objectives:

  1. Present research findings or project outcomes in a coherent and professional manner.
  2. Complete the time-guided stages of the research paper or project through online reporting.

Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to use digital tools to communicate research findings or project outcomes efficiently.

  1. Organize and present research findings
  2. Analyze independent research using digital tools and academic resources.
  3. Use online learning platforms to effectively manage and complete their capstone.
