Corequisites: EMSA 2600

This course is a national registry exam preparatory course. This course will utilize high-fidelity patient simulation, test question analysis, and oral assessment training to prepare the student to critically think their way to a successful licensing exam experience. This course will end with a final summative written and practical exam.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to implement successful treatment plans in multiple leadership roles for various patient types.
Objectives:
- Develop patient assessments and treatment plans for various medical and traumatic emergencies.
- Perform the role of team leader during simulated patient scenarios.
- Perform as a team member during simulated patient scenarios, actively supporting the team leader’s efforts and realistically performing directed actions.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to analyze multiple medic/patient events.
Objectives:
- Critique simulated patient scenarios, providing verbal feedback for each interaction.
- Analyze performances of simulated patient interactions corresponding them to established paradigms in a written debriefing.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to analyze critical thinking multiple-choice (or multiple-select) exam items.
Objectives:
- Implement critical thinking strategies while taking multiple practice tests simulating licensure exam content and items.
- Critically assess test performances by critiquing results in post-test exercises.
Outcome 4: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate naturalization of prehospital patient assessment and management.
Objectives:
- Develop a naturalization with the oral interview testing process, interviewing the simulated patient sufficiently, and develop an effective treatment strategy for a pediatric and adult patient.
- Participate in a successful oral interview with the Program Medical Director, demonstrating successful patient assessment and management.
- Demonstrate proficiency in a static cardiology testing station.
- Successfully complete a summative written exam demonstrating mastery of the paramedic program curriculum
