Upon completion of this course, through the assessment process the student will identify the correct field‐impression of a real or simulated patient.
Objectives:
The student will:
- Identify the steps of the medical and trauma assessment.
- Perform the steps of the medical and trauma assessment.
- Incorporate advanced techniques at the appropriate place in the assessment process.
- Demonstrate the understanding and use of establishing a differential diagnosis in patient assessment.
Outcome 2:
Upon completion of this course, the students will incorporate advanced airway techniques at the appropriate point in patient management.
Objectives:
The student will:
Demonstrate basic techniques for airway management.
Explain the proper steps of endotracheal intubation.
Perform endotracheal intubation.
Identify the circumstances surrounding the need to employ a surgical technique for airway maintenance.
Outcome 3:
Upon completion of this course, students will demonstrate proper techniques for drug and fluid administration.
Objectives:
The student will:
- Utilize IV, IM, Sub‐Q routes for medication administration.
- Explain the proper steps of parenteral drug and fluid administration.
- Identify appropriate drug therapies and administration routes for various patient assessment scenarios.
- Demonstrate effective documentation of medication administration.
Outcome 4:
Students will appropriately operate the EKG/defibrillator.
Objectives:
The student will:
- Interpret ECGs function and maintenance.
- Perform safe and effective defibrillation of shockable rhythms as determined by the American Heart Association.
- Perform safe and efffective synchronized cardioversion as determined by the American Heart Association.
- Perform safe and effective transcutaneous pacing as determined by the American Heart Association.
- Identify and describe the treatment algorythm for various cardiac rhythms in a Static Cardiology station.
