Controls Technician Certificate

Students will discover how to be prepared to complete this short-term accelerated program in the engineering and advanced technology fields by completing the Advanced Technology Readiness course as a built-in prerequisite. The nine critical competencies found throughout the program will be seen in various courses, projects and tasks, which include communication and collaboration, digital media literacy, and entrepreneurism. Students will learn the fundamentals of a variety of software applications, learn how to be resourceful during the program, and discover how to operate with an entrepreneurial mindset. The Controls Technician program prepares individuals for a future in an advanced manufacturing environment. Topics covered include an overview of industrial processes and Trade Fundamentals review of math, blueprint reading and measuring tools and OSHA 10 relative to shop application and major components to the program. The Controls Technician program concentrates on how machines coordinate and communicate in the assembly process. Students receive diagnostic evaluation through testing in these major areas. programming and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) devices. Motor control with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) technology and part tracking utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) are also covered in this program. Controls Technicians must be creative and analytical in their approaches when working with modern production processes. Upon successful completion, a FANUC Handling Tool Operation and Programming Certification will be issued and a student may choose to take a Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Level 1 exam.
