- Students planning to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security should seek the advice of a program advisor, counselor, or academic advisor when selecting elective courses.
- (Alternative Selection) The student may arrange to take courses specifically directed to the educational occupational goal for employment (of the student) with the consent of the faculty advisor and the department. The courses must be applicable to specific fields in Homeland Security that would provide the student an improved background for the desired specific employment opportunities at the federal, state or local levels.
*A critical course is a course that is highly correlated with success in a particular program and field. Critical courses are identified by the academic department as courses that the student should have a high level of understanding and comprehension in order to progress successfully in the program.
**A recommended course is a suggestion or an advised option that correlates to the respective program. Recommended courses complement the skill set(s) required to be successful and are considered to be beneficial for enhancing students’ education in the program. Recommended courses are not mandatory. In some cases there may not be recommended courses.
***An exploratory course is one that provides a student a broad overview of a particular field/area of study and associated occupations. Exploratory courses help students better understand if that particular program is a good fit for the student to pursue given their interests and career goals.
