Program Description:
The Radiologic Technology program is designed to ensure that entry level radiologic technologists possess the essential technical and clinical skills expected by employers of radiographers and ensure that graduates of the program are prepared to successfully pass the certification examination offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
Program Outcomes:
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
1. Possess the skills necessary for radiology health care professionals who are responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation to humans and animals for diagnostic, therapeutic or research purposes.
2. Perform the radiographic examination that creates the images needed for diagnosis.
3. Maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure techniques.
4. Exhibit the following professional characteristics:
The skill to use modern technologies to research and retrieve information, weight and discriminate between good and poor sources of information, and take action based upon the acquisition of new information and knowledge.
Stewardship over the security and confidentiality associated with patient medical information.
Requirements & Specific Information:
Macomb Community College will prepare students by providing the necessary prerequisite and general education courses needed to be admitted to hospital clinical teaching programs to complete the clinical and technical components of the AAS degree. Students must achieve grade “C” or better, or grade “Pass” (if the course is a Pass/Fail course) for all the Core and General Education courses in this program. Upon notification of successful completion of the hospital clinical teaching component, students will be granted 30 semester credits. This along with completion of all pre‑requisite courses and general education courses will allow students to apply for graduation with an Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology and make them eligible to take the certification examination offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology to become certified radiologic technologists.
