The Mathematics program is designed to provide students with the basic competencies, knowledge, and skills essential to transfer to a baccalaureate degree program in Mathematics.

Degree & Certificate Requirements

It is required that the composition/communication course in Group I be started within the first fifteen (15) credit hours of the degree

Semester 1

MATH 1760 - Analytic Geometry & Calculus 1 Credit Hours: 4.00 (Required Course GEN ED Group III) (Critical Course minimum grade C is recommended for future success but is not required to receive credit)
GEN ED - Group I (AS) Credit Hours: Variable
GEN ED - Group IV (AS) Credit Hours: Variable
Elective - Variable Credit Hours (select a 1000 or higher course). It is strongly encouraged that you work with a counselor or academic advisor to choose electives.

Semester 2

MATH 1770 - Analytic Geometry & Calculus 2 Credit Hours: 4.00 (Critical Course minimum grade C is recommended for future success but is not required to receive credit)
GEN ED - Group I (AS) Credit Hours: Variable
GEN ED - Group V (AS) Credit Hours: Variable
Elective - Variable Credit Hours (select a 1000 or higher course, not previously taken). It is strongly encouraged that you work with a counselor or academic advisor to choose electives.

Semester 3

MATH 2000 - Introduction to Linear Algebra Credit Hours: 3.00 (Critical Course minimum grade C is recommended for future success but is not required to receive credit)
MATH 2760 - Analytic Geometry & Calculus 3 Credit Hours: 4.00 (Critical Course minimum grade C is recommended for future success but is not required to receive credit)
GEN ED - Group II (AS) Credit Hours: Variable
Elective - variable credit hour (select a course 1000 level or higher not previously taken). It is strongly encouraged that you work with a counselor or academic advisor to determine if additional electives are needed.

Semester 4

MATH 2770 - Differential Equations Credit Hours: 4.00 (Critical Course minimum grade C is recommended for future success but is not required to receive credit)

Program Notes:

Students must take a minimum of 30 credits in General Education courses from the 5 core areas as outlined in AS degree. Assuming no courses are taken during the Summer semester, full time students should average at least 16 credit hours per semester to graduate within 4 semesters. Taking courses during the summer semester allows students a better chance of fulfilling degree requirements on time. Students should take elective courses to meet the minimum requirement of 60 credit hours required for the Associate of Science degree and that are appropriate to their transfer objective. Some of these courses could be prerequisites for core courses. Students should consult with a counselor, academic advisor or program advisor (586.445.7999 Center Campus or South Campus).
