Program Description:
The Law Enforcement with Police Academy program prepares students for entry‑level positions in agencies identified with the criminal justice system in the United States as well as offers opportunities to current practitioners for improvement of their skills, knowledge, and abilities. Students will develop or improve skills and knowledge of criminal law, current issues in policing, evidence and criminal procedures and investigation as well as other facets of law enforcement.
Program Outcomes:
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
1. Explain mechanics of criminal procedure as applied to the area of search and seizure.
2. Identify legal regulations pertaining to the interviewing process.
3. Demonstrate the proper method for collecting crime scene evidence.
4. Define profiling as it applies to law enforcement.
5. Identify the methodology used in creating a criminal profile
6. Identify social issues that are influencing today’s law enforcement community.
7. Identify the components of an effective law enforcement agency in America.
8. Explain the National Incident Management based on the criteria provided by the Department of Homeland Security.
Requirements & Specific Information:
Students must achieve grade “C” or better, or grade “Pass” (if the course is a Pass/Fail course), for LAWE 2815, LAWE 2816 and LAWE 2817 in this program. If a grade lower than C, or Pass (if the course is a Pass/Fail course), is earned in any of these three courses in this program, the student will be required to repeat LAWE 2815, LAWE 2816 and LAWE 2817 and earn a minimum grade of C, or Pass (if the course is a Pass/Fail course), to be eligible to take the MCOLES Licensing Exam. Students receiving financial aid or veteran/military education benefits should contact the respective office for information on the possible impact to their aid/benefit.
