HLTH-8127 Medication Aide Understand the elements used to give medications to long-term care patients in skilled nursing facilities. Describe the various tasks to perform safe medication dispensing, storage, and disposal. Learn different forms to dispense mediations, safety checks of medication administration, and reporting errors. Explain when the nurse should be notified about a resident’s condition.

Topics Safe Medication Dispensing, storage and disposal Activities/Resources Lab skills: mock practice dispensing medications; Videos on dispensing medications; Peer Editing and Committing. Procedural Skills Demonstrations: discuss with Instructor the level of readiness and performance.
Evaluation Grading Policies: This course is extremely demanding and will require at least 25 - 30 hours of study per week to satisfactorily complete all assignments. All discussion board posts, multiple choice quizzes, peer edits and comments, collaboration meetings, and assignments are all due by Sunday evening at 11:59 pm on the assigned week as the course outline schedules. No late quizzes or homework assignments will be accepted for credit if turned in after the respective deadline. All assignments will be graded within 24 hours past due date. Comments will be provided within same time limit if applicable.
Successful Completion Complete all assignments; Attendance: No more than 1 day can be excused, but all assignments must be completed. No absences allowed during clinical rotation. Active participation and showing competence in activities; Upon completion of course, student will be eligible to take state certification exam; Upon passing and completion of course, students will receive a certificate of completion from Macomb.
