CSFT-8001D Introduction to Computers Ideal for the beginner seeking computer job skills. Learn basic computer tasks using Windows 10, navigating the web, working with applications, tiles and e-mail. You will also browse the web, research on the Internet, improve search results, learn about Chat GPT, defend yourself from Web threats and create and manage favorites.

Learning Outcomes 1. Describe the basic layout of the Windows 10 Desktop screen.
2. Use common features in drop-down menus, toolbars, ribbons, scroll bars, and tiles.
3. Create and edit a document using Word.
4. Save and print files and create folders.
5. Navigate to Web pages by typing or doing a search in the browser’s address bar.
6. Navigate in a Website using hyperlinks.
7. Perform a basic Web search and improve search results.
8. Using Settings and Help.
9. Understanding of NLP technology, and the role of AI Topics 1. Windows 10 basics.
2. Using a word processor.
3. Working with files and folders.
4. Browsing Web pages.
5. Searching for Websites.
6. Sending and receiving email; sending and receiving attachments to other devices.

Evaluation Students will evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class form distributed electronically at the end of the course.
Successful Completion The instructor will evaluate the student’s skills learned using attendance, participation, feedback, testing where appropriate, and projects completed.
75% attendance is required;
100% attendance is recommended as no special arrangements will be made for missing class.
75% attendance = 13.5 hours.
Upon successful completion, this class will appear on the student’s Macomb Community College non-credit transcript. If this class is part of a certificate program, student may request the certificate once all classes in the program have been completed.
