Learning Outcomes Outcomes and Objectives
OUTCOME 1: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to explain the operation of a computer-aided transcription system and the use of the system’s support.
OBJECTIVES:
- Identify the terminology and components of a computer-aided transcription system.
- Demonstrate the ability to sign on and off a CAT system.
- Demonstrate the ability to create a starter dictionary.
- Demonstrate the ability to utilize the support services available.
OUTCOME 2: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to navigate and utilize the software to produce a transcript.
OBJECTIVES:
- Demonstrate the ability to read and translates notes and hook up to realtime.
- Demonstrate an understanding of file management and storage options.
- Demonstrate an understanding of printing and delivery methods available.
- Demonstrate the skills of editing, globaling and dictionary management.
- Understand the creation and use of block files, including title and certificate pages.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the resources available for realtime preparation.
- Produce a five-page, first-pass transcript with a goal of 95 percent
OUTCOME 3: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to identify other technology used by court reporters for their daily work.
OBJECTIVES:
- Demonstrate an understanding of computer terminology and Microsoft Windows and dialogs.
- Identify other CAT software systems.
- Identify other software programs available on the market to assist reporters.
- Demonstrate an understanding of a variety of reporter roles, including freelance, courtroom, CART, and captioning.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the reporter’s role in litigation support.
OUTCOME 4: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of available electronic writers.
OBJECTIVES:
- Understand the variety of writers on the market.
- Explain what basic care and maintenance a writer needs.
- Understand the basics of key adjustment, stroke tension and stroke depth.
- Understand basic realtime-related software/hardware.
- Explain the function of support related to hardware.
OUTCOME 5: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to identify how videotaping impacts the legal profession.
OBJECTIVES:
- Explain what a videographer is and their role in depositions and trials.
- Understand the NCRA CLVS program available for videographers.

Evaluation Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class format the last class session.
Successful Completion Grading Criteria:
Instructor will assess students based on:
Class participation = 20%
Attendance= 20%
Produce a five page, first- pass transcript with 95% = 60%
Student must achieve a score of 70% or higher to pass the class.
