Learning Outcomes
  1. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to define medical terms built from word parts. These word parts include prefixes, suffixes, and word roots.
    1. Identify and define four word parts.
    2. Identify and define combining forms.
    3. Use word parts to build medical terms for a given definition.
  2. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to use medical terms.
    1. Define the disease and disorders terms, surgical terms, diagnostic terms, complementary terms, and abbreviations for the various anatomical body systems.
    2. Spell the disease and disorders terms, surgical terms, diagnostic terms, complementary terms, and abbreviations for the various anatomical body systems.
  3. Upon completion of this course, students will we able to locate anatomical position using medical terms.
    1. Describe body planes.
    2. Describe directional terms.
    3. Describe quadrants.
    4. Describe body cavities.

Evaluation
Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Course form distributed at the last class session.

Successful Completion
The instructor will evaluate the student’s skills learned using attendance, participation, feedback, testing where appropriate, and projects completed. 90% attendance is required; 100% attendance is recommended since no special arrangements will be made for missing class. 90% attendance = 43.2 hours.  Upon successful completion, this class will appear on the student’s Macomb Community College non-credit transcript.
