- Review CPT Manual sections, subsections, guidelines, appendices, and index.
- Review HCPCS Manual sections, tables, appendices, and index.
- Review ICD-9-CM Manual, Volumes 1 & 2, E codes and V codes.
- Prepare coding manuals to facilitate use during the certification exam.
- Study tips for those students who plan on taking a national certification examination.
- Test taking techniques to improve certification examination outcome.

- Everything you need to know to register for the Certified Professional Coder Exam.
- How to create quick reference sources within the approved coding manuals.
- Test taking techniques that have proven results.
Activities/Resources
- Evaluate coding questions for professional services in the office and facility setting for:
- Evaluation and management
- Surgeries and anesthesia
- Diagnostic services
- Therapeutic services
- Practice test taking skills using sample test questions in a timed session.
Evaluation Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class form distributed at the last class session.
Successful Completion The instructor will evaluate the student’s skills learned using participation, attendance, feedback, testing where appropriate, and projects completed. Students earn credit for this course by attending and participating in the entire course workshop and returning all course materials, as indicated, at the end of class. Upon successful completion, this class will appear on the student’s Macomb Community College non-credit transcript.
