CRTR-8008A Legal Terminology for Court Reporters Prerequisites None This course develops an understanding of legal terminology, the judicial system, and laws that govern court reporters.

Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Pronounce and spell over 750 of the most commonly used legal terms.
- Develop a clear understanding of legal proceedings as it relates to both civil and criminal law.
- Understand the methods of researching legal citations, court rules, statutes, and all laws pertaining to the profession of court reporting.

- Judicial system.

- Methods of researching legal citations.
- Real property (landlord/tenant).
- 1ax law.
- Torts and personal injury and wills.
- Trusts and estates.
Activities/Resources Mock trials.
Dictation of actual court transcripts to promote discussion on terminology and procedures.
Evaluation Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class form distributed at the last class session.
Successful Completion The instructor will evaluate the student’s participation and skills learned using participation, attendance, feedback, testing where appropriate, and projects completed. 100% attendance is required.
Two quizzes (each is 25% of grade)
One final exam (50% of grade)
A score of 70% or higher is required to pass
