CRTR-8007 Court Reporting Skill 1 Prerequisites None Begin the process of speed building and the introduction of legal, medical, and technical dictation. Speed levels are 120-140 wpm, and literary, jury charge, and Q & A tests must be passed with 95% accuracy.

Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
- Apply all principles of conflict-free writing.
- Transcribe and pass with 95% accuracy at least one (1) test at 120 wpm in each category of literary, jury charge, and Q & A.
- Transcribe and pass with 95% accuracy at least one (1) test at 140 wpm in each category of literary, jury charge, and Q & A.
- Develop and strengthen speed building skills and practice habits.
- Begin to build an extensive knowledge of steno arbitraries and phrases.
- Successfully read back and analyze their steno notes.
- Format a complete transcript.
- Produce a transcript with 95% accuracy.

- Medical/legal terminology.
- Practice and speed building techniques.

- Role of the reporter in trials, depositions, administrative hearings, and other judicial proceedings.

- Ethics.
- Knowledge and involvement in professional associations.

- Extensive readback at varying speeds and varying syllabic density.

Evaluation Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class form at the last class session.
Successful Completion Instructors will assess students based on class performance, completion of required assignments, verbal communication and class participation, attendance, the success of quarterly quizzes, and final exam. All speed tests must be passed with 95% accuracy rate and are graded according to the National Court Reporting Association Minimum Standards and Requirements “What Is an Error?” Practice logs or worksheets must be completed on a weekly basis on the ev360 program and printed and submitted to their instructor in order to receive course credit.
