CSFT-8059B Keyboarding Basics Prerequisites None Basic computer skills required. Tired of two-finger typing at your computer? Using computer software, learn the home row, alphabetic keys, and basic punctuation keys using the touch method. Bring USB drive and earbuds/earphones to 1st session.

Learning Outcomes By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate the proper techniques while keyboarding at a personal computer.
- Be able to use the “touch” method to operate the keyboard of a personal computer.
- Be able to input material on a personal computer at 15+ gross words per minute, with a maximum of 3 errors per minute.

- Proper technique, Lesson 1 (home row, space bar, enter, and I).
- Lessons 1R, 2, and 3 (review, E, N).
- Lessons 4 and 5 (Left shift, H, T, period, R, right shift, C, and O).
- Lessons 6 and 7 (W, comma, B, P, and review).
- Lessons 8 and 9 (G, question mark, X, U, Q, M, V, and apostrophe).
- Lesson 10 (Z, Y, quotation mark, and tab).

Evaluation Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class form distributed at the last class session.
Successful Completion The instructor will evaluate the student’s skills learned using attendance, participation, feedback, testing where appropriate, and projects completed. 75% attendance is required; 100% attendance is recommended as no special arrangements will be made for missing class. 75% attendance = 12 hours. Upon successful completion, this class will appear on the student’s Macomb Community College non-credit transcript.
