 This theory course focuses on planning safe, culturally‑diverse, patient‑centered nursing care for patients experiencing problems related to anxiety, alterations in affect, and alterations in cognition. It emphasizes using evidence‑based practice and quality improvement initiatives to develop critical thinking skills in caring for patients and their families. In addition, the course addresses growth and development of adolescent and young adult patients.

	The student will describe national patient safety goals for patients experiencing suicidal ideation or demonstrating self harm.The student will describe national patient safety goals and quality indicators of patients experiencing assaultive behavior toward others due to anxiety, alterations in affect, or alterations in cognition.The student will describe national patient safety goals and quality indicators for patients at risk for injury to others or self due to alterations in cognition.
