WHES 2094 - Advanced Techniques for Health & Wellness Coaching Credit Hours: 3.00 Prerequisites: WHES 2092
Students will begin more specialized training using advanced techniques, cognitive-behavioral, and holistic approaches. The student will continue to refine and master skills to support and guide individuals for creating and sustaining health changes via skill development and practice with peers.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate the various components of coaching sessions.
Objectives:
- Utilize the Good Model in a coaching session.
- Apply SMART goals in a coaching session.
- Utilize rulers as measurements of readiness for change in a coaching session.
- Conduct a consultation session.
- Conduct and initial session
- Conduct a follow-up session.
- Conduct a session that incorporates conflict-resolution techniques.
- Conduct a session that incorporates techniques to manage strong emotions.
- Conduct a closing session.
- Conduct a group session.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to complete a practical skills video coaching session for evaluation that incorporates the required coaching skills.
Objectives:
- Explore the client’s vision.
- Explore the client’s sense of meaning and purpose.
- Establish long-term goals.
- Discuss options, obstacles, and action plans.
- Demonstrate skills that include being calm, present, emotionally available, and empathetic and actively listening.
- Establish rapport.
- Ask open-ended questions.
- Inquire and reflect on the client’s agenda, needs and interests.
- Establishes short-term SMART goals.
- Facilitates self-discovery, learning, and insight.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to begin constructing a health and wellness coaching portfolio.
Objectives:
- Identify coaching philosophy.
- Identify coaching target populations.
- Create wellness assessment and rulers for client evaluation.
- Create a checklist for the following individual coaching sessions: consultation, first session, follow-up session, closing session.
- A list of open-ended questions including the Good Model and SMART goals.
