Private instruction providing the beginning student with the means of establishing proficiency in the instrumental performance area. Student will take private lessons on a beginning level. Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to name, define, and demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the physical support skills.

- Breath support.
- Posture, standing, and seating positions.
- Finger touch, hand strength, hand balance, and hand independence.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to name, define, and demonstrate fundamental knowledge of technical exercises.

- Warm‐up exercises for flexibility.
- Exercises for tone development.
- Articulation and tempo exercises for technical control.
- Scales and arpeggios for technical control.
Outcome 4: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to name, define, and demonstrate introductory knowledge of repertoire.
Objectives: Name, define, and demonstrate introductory knowledge of performance repertoire:
- From different style periods.
- In both popular and classical styles.
