This course focuses on the forces influencing behavior at work and the factors that contribute to successful interpersonal relations in business. Topics include building a positive self‑concept, understanding your communication and leadership style, the Jo‑Hari model of self understanding, conflict management, the power of positive reinforcement, and stress management.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to discuss the study of human relations and how it will help a person achieve career success as a manager and increase work/life balance.Objectives: - Identify the 7 basic themes of human relations
- Describe how the “Age of Information” affects human relations.
- Discuss the need to balance a person’s focus on information versus people.
- Classify the skills that are included in team building as a leader.
- Describe how a person can increase his self-awareness in a business seting.
- Discuss how self-disclosure as a manager can build trust between people.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to formulate a business memo or other business communication with the four different communication styles. Objectives: - Describe the major developments that have given new importance to human relations. Describe the differences between interpersonal and impersonal communications and the use of technology within each.
- Distinguish between the four different communication styles.
- Practice communication style flexing in scenarios.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to categorize the major forces influencing human behavior at work. Objectives: - List the six major forces that influence human behavior at work.
- Describe the human relations movement in the United States.
- Identify the components of a proper workplace violence policy.
- Interpret ethical conduct as a manager and employee.
- Discuss the major motivational theories and strategies.
Outcome 4: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to determine the proper conflict mode to use in a business management scenario. Objectives: - Complete a self-assessment of the student’s individual conflict mode preference.
- Experiment using different modes/styles in differing scenarios.
- Determine the level of diversity within the organization.
- Choose the correct mode to use in diverse backgrounds.
