LAWE 1500 - Analysis of Terrorism Credit Hours: 3.00 Prerequisites: None
A detailed examination of the causes, phenomena, and significance of terrorism of all types, including those which are revolutionary in origin, as well as state, liberation, and criminal. The workshop, having provided a sound knowledge of the origins, leadership and policies of terrorism, will monitor its path and practices in the world of today as well as providing some assessment of the threat of tomorrow. By means of the workshop approach, each student will learn to track the activities of the various terrorist groups.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to define terrorism and identify topologies of terrorism.
Objectives: The student will:
- Identify arguments of elements to be included in the definition of terrorism.
- Define political as it is used in the term terrorism.
- Identify the ways in which terrorism can be a tactic of the revolutionary and a strategy of the state.
- Identify left and right wing ideology.
- Identify the elements of terrorism from above and below.
- Identify the elements of nationalistic groups.
- Identify the elements of crusaders and criminals.
- Identify the elements of state-sponsored terrorism.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to identify the legal and political aspects of terrorism.

- Define political offense exception to extradition.
- Identify the elements of crimes under which terrorists may be prosecuted.
- Identify issues related to formulation of a national policy toward terrorism.
- Identify the weaponry of terrorism.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to identify methods of counter-terrorism.
Objectives: The student will:
- Define counter-terrorism.
- Identify issues related to intelligence oversight.
- Define the role of the media.
- Identify the elements of hostage-taking and hostage negotiation.
- Identify the elements of narco-terrorism.
- Identify the victimization process.
