HLTH-8126 Registered Behavioral Health Technician


Students will learn skills necessary to participate in the growing field of Applied Behavior Analysis as a Registered Behavioral Health Technician (RBT). Students will learn how behavior is shaped through environmental interactions and will gain an understanding of how behavior can be changed and how skills can be taught. Students will gain the 40-hour education required for the RBT certification including an understanding of concepts such as reinforcement, contingency analysis, functions of behavior, data analysis and ethics. An optional 4-hour job shadowing is available for students With no prior experience. Criminal background check prior to placement is required.  To obtain the RBT certification, students will need to seek BCBA supervision and pass the RBT competency assessment outside of their coursework. Objectives

  • Students will describe the role of an RBT in an ABA service delivery model.
  • Students will apply RBT ethics task list through scenarios
  • Students will diagram contingencies of behavior and identify the corresponding function(s).
  • Students will discriminate between various behavior reduction and skill acquisition procedures
  • Students will discriminate between various assessments including preference assessment, skills assessments, and functional assessments
  • Students will complete necessary documentation and reporting · Students will identify data collection modalities used for data analysis

Evaluation
Students will confidentially evaluate this course by completing the electronic Student Evaluation of Class form distributed via email after the last class session.

Successful Completion
The instructor will evaluate the student’s skills learned using attendance, participation, feedback, testing where appropriate, and projects completed.

83 % attendance is required; 100% attendance is recommended, although zoom recordings of the online lectures will be posted following the lecture to allow for students to observe missed sessions due to special circumstances. The use of zoom recordings to supplement attendance will need to be approved by the instructor.

83% = 40 hours.

A minimum score of 80% in coursework is required for successful completion of the course.

Upon successful completion, this course will appear on the student’s Macomb Community College non-credit transcript.
