CSFT-9002 Cybersecurity Bootcamp

Are you interested in taking your computer knowledge to the next level? Is getting certified in cybersecurity one of your career goals? Do you want more engagement than a “talking head” video or narrated slides? Consider jumping into the Cybersecurity Bootcamp! This instructor-led course will begin with computer and networking fundamentals, then quickly move into cybersecurity labs and activities geared towards preparing for the industry recognized CompTIA Security+ exam. 

Recommended to have basic networking knowledge.

Learning Outcomes
The objective of this course is to teach the student the fundamentals of cybersecurity and prepare them to take the CompTIA Security+ certification exam.

After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe computer hardware and software components
  • Describe network devices and network protocols
  • Explain different types of cybersecurity threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities
  • Explain the importance of different cybersecurity concepts in designing a network
  • Recommend appropriate cybersecurity solutions based on a given situation
  • Explain the importance of policies, risk management, regulations, and frameworks in organizational security

  • Describe computer hardware components, such as input, output, and storage devices 
  • Describe different types of computer software, such as operating systems and applications 
  • Describe the use of network devices, such as routers, switches, and wireless access points
  • Describe the use of network protocols, such as Ethernet and TCP/IP
  • Explain vulnerabilities related to malware and social engineering
  • Explain the importance of physical controls related to cybersecurity
  • Apply techniques used to harden an operating system, such as passwords and group policies
  • Apply techniques used to harden network devices, such as firewalls, VLANs, and VPN

  • Explain the mitigation of vulnerabilities related to wireless networks and devices

Evaluation
Students will evaluate this course by completing the Student Evaluation of Class form distributed electronically at the end of the course

Successful Completion
The instructor will evaluate the student’s skills learned using attendance, participation, feedback, testing where appropriate, and projects completed.

80 % attendance is required; 100% attendance is recommended, as no special arrangements will be made for missing class.

80% = 76.8 hours.

Upon successful completion, this course will appear on the student’s Macomb Community College non-credit transcript.
