NURS 2375 - Childhood & Family Nursing Clinical

Credit Hours: 1.50


Prerequisites: Admission into the Nursing Program; NURS 2255  and NURS 2265  all with grade C or better, or grade Pass (if the course is a Pass/Fail course)

Corequisites: NURS 2346  and NURS 2356  

(formerly NURS 2365)

This patient and family-centered clinical course helps students develop skills in providing and managing nursing pediatric care. Using the nursing process, students will develop critical thinking, communication skills, application of technology, and professional responsibility while safely caring for pediatric patients with various problems. This course is graded on a pass/fail basis. Students are required to pass this course to progress in the program.

  1. The student can manage the delivery of care based on the priority needs of the pediatric clients and families through implementation of the nursing process.

Course Objectives:

  1. The student will demonstrate competence in assessment/data collection (i.e., labs, diagnostics, medications, developmental level).
  2. The student will develop/document/prioritize diagnoses, problems, and issues based on assessment data.

  8. The student will evaluate the patient’s progress toward identified outcomes and revise nursing plan of care as indicated.

  2. The student will report abnormal findings and changes in the client’s condition promptly to the instructor and the RN.
  3. The student will communicate therapeutically with the client.
  4. The student will communicate client issues effectively with other members of the health care team.
  5. The student will teach clients based on identified learning needs.
