HITT 1102 - Introduction to Health Information Management & the Health Care Environment Credit Hours: 3.00
Prerequisites: Admission into the Health Information Technology Program; HHSC 1700 , HHSC 1740 , and ITCS 1010 all with grade C or better
Corequisites: HITT 1105 and HITT 1106
This course provides the student with an introduction to the organization of health care and to the health information management profession. Health record content, documentation requirements, and the accrediting and licensing agencies that govern health information will be reviewed.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to interpret external standards, regulations and initiatives related to healthcare delivery systems.
Objectives:
- Apply policies and procedures to ensure organizational compliance with regulations and standards.
- Apply current laws, accreditation, licensure, and certification standards related to health information initiatives from the national, state, local, and facility levels.
- Skilled use of health record documentation requirements including accreditation, certification and licensing.
- Evaluate the type and content of health records.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to describe various healthcare providers and disciplines.
Objectives:
- Differentiate the roles of various providers and disciplines throughout the continuum of healthcare and respond to their information needs.
- Identify and compare the various healthcare settings presented.
- Discuss and analyze health information management application in various healthcare settings.
