AUTO 1100 - Automotive Brake Systems Credit Hours: 3.00 Prerequisites: None
A study of the principles and theory of both disc and drum brake designs. Emphasis placed on inspection, parts replacement, diagnosis, use of specifications, special tools and machining operations.

Contact Hours: 4 Billable Contact Hours: 4 OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to service the hydraulic system.
Objectives:
- Diagnose and rebuild disc calipers and wheel cylinders.
- Diagnose and rebuild master cylinders.
- Bleed system.
- Test and service hydraulic valves.
- Diagnose brake pedal conditions.
- Bleed hydraulic system.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to service drum brakes.
Objectives:
- Machine drums.
- Measure and diagnose drums.
- Remove and replace brake shoes.
- Diagnose and service self-adjusters.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to service disc brakes.
Objectives:
- Machine rotors.
- Measure and diagnose rotors.
- Remove and replace brake pads.
Outcome 4: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to service parking brake.
Objectives:
- Replace cables.
- Adjust parking brake.
Outcome 5: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to service power assist units.
Objectives:
- Diagnose malfunctions.
- Remove and replace boosters.
- Measure vacuum.
