AUTO 1210 - Automotive Engines Fundamentals Credit Hours: 3.00 Prerequisites: AUTO 1000
This course will include theory of operation, engine testing, cooling systems and lubrication systems.
Contact Hours: 4
South Campus
OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain the operation of a four stroke engine
Objectives:
- Describe the function of the valves during the four stroke cycle.
- Describe the when the low and high pressure occurs in the combustion chamber.
- Explain the importance of correct timing between the crankshaft and camshaft.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain the method for determining displacement and compression
Objectives:
- Identify the criteria necessary for determining displacement.
- Identify the formula for finding the compression ratio.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to properly perform engine diagnostic test.
Objectives:
- Perform a compression test.
- Explain the purpose of an engine run up test.
- Demonstrate how to perform a cylinder leakage test.
