AUTO 1220 - Automotive Engine Service


Credit Hours: 3.00
(4 contact hrs)
This course will include engine disassembly along with cylinder head service, block service, crankshaft service, piston service and engine assembly. South Campus.

Prerequisites:
Prerequisite: AUTO-1000Prerequisite: AUTO-1210

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to perform the proper procedure for servicing the cylinder heads.

Objectives:

  1. Disassemble an overhead camshaft cylinder head.
  2. Measure valve guide diameter.
  3. Checking valve spring tension.

Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain the proper procedure for servicing the engine block.

Objectives:

  1. Disassemble the block for cleaning and inspection.
  2. Measure the cylinder bore for taper and out of round.
  3. Check deck flatness.

Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to perform the proper procedure for assembling the engine .

Objectives:

  1. Assemble the pistons and rings.
  2. Install the timing mechanism.
  3. Tighten torque to yield bolts.
