AUTO 1050 - Automotive Electrical II Credit Hours: 3.00 (4 contact hrs) This course will cover electrical testing tools, basic electronics, electric motors, and starting and charging systems. South Campus.
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: AUTO-1000Prerequisite: AUTO-1040
OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to perform circuit testing using diagnostic tools
Objectives:
- Demonstrate the proper use of a power probe.
- Demonstrate the proper use of a relay tester.
- Demonstrate the proper use of a break out box.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain the diagnosis of the charging system.
Objectives:
- Describe the function of the voltage regulator.
- Explain how to performance test a charging system using a VAT machine.
- Demonstrate how to test for voltage drops in the charging system circuit.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain the diagnosis of a cranking system.
Objectives:
- Describe the function of the powertrain control module (PCM) in controlling cranking system operation.
- Explain how to performance test a starter draw test using a VAT machine.
- Demonstrate how to test for voltage drops in the cranking system circuit.
Outcome 4: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to describe the operation of electronic components

- Describe the operation of diodes.
- Describe the operation of zener diodes.
