PLS 292E - Materials and Processes A course designed to explain the basic structure-relationship in materials. The course will address the chemical and physical principles underlying the nature and behavior of materials. First we will study the metallic materials, their properties and the processes used to form them. Next, we will study polymers in the same manner. Finally, ceramics will be studied. There will be short sections on other engineering materials, such as concrete, glass, paper, minerals, etc. In ferrous metals we will study the Iron-Carbon Diagram: in polymers, the glass transition temperature and crystallinity will be featured.
