PLS 289 - Failure Analysis of Plastics A course designed to study the various sources of plastic part failure. The course will address stresses and how they contribute to part failure. The effect of environmental conditions will be explored. Failure investigations utilizing microscopy of microtomed samples will be demonstrated. Instrumental methods of IR, DSC and TGA will be used to show how they can support the finding of the cause of failure. The student will be expected to report all findings both orally and in a final written form. Report writing will be a major factor in final grade determination. (4 contact hrs) South Campus.
