PLS 271 - Tooling Technology for Plastic Molding


A course designed to study the factors which affect the selection of materials, design and construction of molds used to manufacture plastic components. The materials consideration will include what materials are used and how they are processed. The design considerations will include the design of the runner and injection systems in addition to the mechanical and design options. The methods of construction will include turning, milling, hobbing, casting, plating and polishing. The emphasis will be on injection mold making and will include comparisons of the various methods, such as runnerless molds, hot manifold, and insulated runner. Compression and vacuum forming molds will also be considered. (4 contact hrs) South Campus.
