WHES 2060 - Pilates & Health Credits: 3.00 (3 contact hrs) (formerly PHED-2060) WHES-2060 teaches the five principles of Pilates and meditation via various floor and mat exercises in the development of a personal exercise program and health portfolio. It also explores nutrition, weight management, physical activity, stress management, and other health topics as part of a total wellness program.
OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain the wellness philosophy.
Objectives:
- Describe the wellness philosophy.
- Explain the six dimensions of wellness.
- Identify components of the physical dimension of wellness.
- Apply principles of physical fitness to physical activity.
- Identify how Pilates and Yoga are related to a total wellness program.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to apply at least one of the six dimensions of wellness.
Objectives:
- Identify personal risk factors using wellness assessment modules in the computer lab.
- Identify student’s own behavior patterns that create barriers to wellness.
- Using material from wellness assessments and applying relevant theory, create a personal wellness plan to change or modify behaviors that are barriers to personal wellness for stress, exercise, and/or nutrition.
Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to explain the role of Pilates and meditation as components of a wellness program.

- Explain relaxation/meditation methods:
- Progressive.
- Visualization.
- Disassociation.
- Meditation.
- Use Pilates and Yoga exercises in developing a personalized routine.
- Identify how Pilates and meditation are related to a total wellness program.
