Graduates of the Associate of Applied Science degree in Architectural Technology may pursue a wide variety of employment opportunities in the architectural design and construction industry. They are also well-prepared to pursue a bachelor’s degree and eventual registration as an architect. The program provides an opportunity for the student to acquire the knowledge and hands-on skills in architectural design and construction with current technologies. The curriculum is designed to include a variety of interest areas within the courses including interior architecture, architectural history, environmental controls, office practice, structures, urban planning, materials, construction technology, rendering, model building and CAD/BIM computer modeling. Students have the opportunity to enrich their education through participation in a variety of architecture-related extracurricular activities, competitions, and preparation for the builder’s license, BIM certificate, and LEED Green Associates credentials. Certificate programs are offered in Residential, Commercial and Civil.
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
1. Create complete projects following the architectural design process from sketch to final documentation.
2. Analyze program statements, reference materials, standards, codes, and other appropriate information sources,
3. Generate architectural design solutions by using conventional graphics and computer graphics applications.
4. Determine appropriate materials and building systems to use in the design of residential, commercial, and urban developments.
5. Apply math concepts to the development and completion of design and construction drawings related to architectural projects.
6. Demonstrate competence when communicating in written and oral presentation form terminology common to the architectural design and construction industry.
7. Integrate the knowledge and technical skills learned to work collaboratively in teams on architectural design and construction projects.
8. Demonstrate the importance of functionality, aesthetics, and diversity in the creative process of architectural design.
9. Evaluate design solutions to accommodate a diverse community and global society.
Requirements & Specific Information:
Articulation agreements (available for viewing on the college website at www.macomb.edu) allow students to get Macomb credit for related high school courses and transfer many credits into a Bachelor of Architecture program. Contact the Facilities Design and Construction Office at 586.445.7012.
