HIST 1400 - History Goes to the Movies Credit Hours: 3.00 Prerequisites: None
Explores and evaluates historical fact, fancy and falsehood portrayed in feature films depicting an historical era or specific historical theme; examines historical problems raised by cinematic subjects.
Contact Hours: 3 Billable Contact Hours: 3 OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to describe the respective requirements of historical authenticity and dramatic effectiveness in film.
Objectives:
- Students will describe the requirements of scholars researching the past.
- Students will describe the requirements of the makers of films about the past.
- Students will describe the complex relationships between scholars and filmmakers.
Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to recognize the legitimacy and pitfalls of feature films addressing problematic historical characters, events, and issues.

- Students will demonstrate critical thinking in evaluating the recreation of historical characters on film.
