WHES 1540 - Power Volleyball


Credit Hours: 2.00
(2 contact hrs)
(formerly PHED-1540) Provides students with fundamental tactics and strategy of winning volleyball. Emphasis on the serve, pass, set, spike, block, and individual defensive techniques. South Campus.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to apply the rules, terms, and etiquette governing the game of power volleyball according to U.S.A Volleyball National Standards.

Objectives:

  1. Identify volleyball rules on exams.
  2. Demonstrate application of volleyball rules through on court situations.
  3. Identify volleyball vocabulary definitions on exams.
  4. Incorporate volleyball terms and vocabulary into class discussions.
  5. Identify strategies, tactics, and court positions on written exams.
  6. Exhibit appropriate etiquette during competition.

Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate fundamental volleyball skills.

Objectives: Students will perform the following volleyball skills:

  1. Setting.
  2. Forearm passing.
  3. Serving.
  4. Digging.
  5. Blocking (single-double).
  6. Attack/spike.
  7. Defensive position.
  8. Offensive play.
  9. Demonstrate volleyball skills in group situations.
  10. Demonstrate strategies and tactics for offensive and defensive court positions.
