MECT 1640 - Introduction to Programmable Controllers - Allen Bradley Plc

(formerly ATEE-1640) MECT-1640 provides an introduction to the Allen-Bradley SLC-500 programmable logic controller. This course will provide students with the necessary skills needed to develop and execute ladder logic projects over a communications channel, such as the DH+ and/or remote I/O links. Students will also be able to set up communications and transfer data using the RS Linx software package South Campus.

Prerequisites:
 

Prerequisite: ELEC-1111 or ELEC-1300 or EETE-2290 or related work experience


OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to identify different types of Allen-Bradley SLC-500 Programmable Controllers.

Objectives:

  1. Describe the difference between a modular and fixed unit.
  2. Describe the difference between a modular and fixed unit.
  3. Identify the types of slots.

Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to set up and program the operating parameter of an SLC-500 Programmable Controller.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Edit simple and complex ladder programs.
  2. Navigate and identify the various menu screens associated with the Allen-Bradley 6200 Software Package.
  3. Describe the operation of the SLC-500 from both the software and hardware perspective
