MACA 2190 - Figure Illustration 2 Credit Hours: 4.00 (6 contact hrs) (3 credit hrs prior to Fall 2005) Advanced study of figure illustration as applied in book, magazine, advertising, and other commercial area; assigned problems using materials and techniques required by mass reproduction processes. May be taken two times for credit with the approval of a Media & Communication Arts advisor.

Prerequisite: MACA-1090
OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES Outcome A: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate an aesthetic sensibility in regard to illustrating the human figure.
Objectives:
- Illustrate the bone and muscle structure of the human anatomy.
- Apply various media used in mass reproduction (line ink and pencil, wash, charcoal, markers, acrylics, watercolor, etc.).
- Draw the figure fully clothed displaying comprehension of anatomy, weight, balance, and drapery.
- Assemble a reference file from actual photos and other photo sources.
- Draw a proportioned / commercial 8 headed male and female figure in the anterior, posterior, and lateral view.
- Demonstrate foreshortening.
- Identify light and shadow of round and angular human forms.
- Draw proportioned hand studies.
- Draw the human head in different views so as to capture a likeness.
Outcome B: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate technical skills to create commercial figure illustrations.
Objectives:
- Draw the figure with a limited color palette.
- Draw the figure in full color.
- Demonstrate techniques of fashion illustration.
- Draw children.
- Draw the proportional figure in various media for commercial reproduction.
- Render the effect of light on the human form.
Outcome C: Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate research and organizational skills as they apply to developing full color illustrations.
Objectives:
- Explain light and shadow of round and angular human forms.
- Identify current illustrators and illustrative trends.
- Illustrate the figure as it relates to problem solving with current visual communication trends.
