HHSC-1050 Medical Assistant Careers provides students with information on the career opportunities available in the medical assistant field. Topics include various job titles in the health care arena, certification, continuing education, and career opportunities. Center Campus.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to describe the Medical Assistant role.

Objectives:

  1. Define the scope of practice of a medical assistant
  2. Define the responsibilities of the medical assistant
  3. State the difference of the medical assistant with the CMA (AAMA) credential

Outcome 2
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to identify the career development of the medical assistant including educational requirements, certification requirements, continuing education requirements, career opportunities and compensation.

Objectives:

  1. Describe the education of the medical assistant
  2. Describe the exam eligibility requirements for the Certified Medical Assistant, CMA (AAMA) exam
  3. Identify exam application steps for the certification exam.
  4. Discuss continuing education requirements to recertify the CMA (AAMA) credential
  5. List career opportunities in the Medical Assistant field.
  6. Discuss the average salary of the Certified Medical Assistant
