ECHS 2340 - Early Childhood Practicum Seminar


Credit Hours: 2.00
(2 contact hrs)
This course offers in depth consideration of issues related to the practicum classroom including authentic observation, documentation and assessment, and developmentally appropriate practice in curriculum development. Methods of forming respectful and reciprocal relationships with families and the teaching staff are also considered. Center Campus.

OUTCOMES AND OBJECTIVES
Outcome 1: Upon completion of this course students will be able to propose a variety of observation and documentation techniques for authentic assessment.

Objectives:

  1. The student will be able to evaluate observation examples
  2. The student will be able to develop techniques for arranging documentation
  3. The student will be able to justify how observation and documentation meets assessment criteria
  4. The student will be able to evaluate the goals, benefits, and uses of assessment

Outcome 2: Upon completion of this course students will be able to analyze classroom environment and curriculum as it relates to developmentally appropriate practice.

Objectives

  1. The student will be able to describe developmentally appropriate practice
  2. The student will be able to propose strategies for development of central concepts in early education
  3. The student will be able to critique lesson plans and materials to be age and developmentally appropriate and allow for inclusion

Outcome 3: Upon completion of this course students will be able to appraise adult-child interactions for opportunities for children to gain skills in self-regulation.

Objectives

  1. The student will be able to describe examples of adult child interactions
  2. The student will be able to assess for opportunities for children to gain self-regulation skill

Outcome 4: Upon completion of this course students will be able to propose methods to develop respectful and reciprocal relationships with families and the community.

Objectives:

  1. The student will be able to plan strategies to connect with families
  2. The student will be able to develop methods to involve families in children’s learning
  3. The student will be able to evaluate techniques for sharing assessment with families
